A HUMANITARIAN

A humanitarian, Dr Efiong is a Rotarian for seven years and the Changemaker President of the Rotary Club of Lafia Central for the year 2021-2022. Under her lead as President, the club got Rotary International citation and District grant for a “Waste to wealth” project aimed at converting agricultural waste to biofuel. She also received eight Rotary Day of Service Certificates of recognition from Rotary International and three certificates from Rotary District 9125. Rotarian Esienanwan is a Paul Harris Fellow for her contribution to The Rotary Foundation.

Positions held

Esienanwan Efiong is a chartered member of the Rotary Club of Lafia Central. She joined the club in February, 2016.

Since then, she has held several positions in the club which includes-

– Chair of Membership Committee (2022-2023)
– Chair of Service Project Committee (2022-2023)
– Member, District Membership Taskforce (2022-2023)
– Member, District Sickle Cell Disease Committee (2022-2023)
– President (2021-2022)
– Vice President/ President Elect/ Club Administrator (2020- 2021)
– Chair, Investiture Planning Committee (2019)
– Secretary (2018-2019)
– Treasurer (2016-2017)
– Member, Service project committee (2016-2018)

Achievements

As President, the club achieved the following;
– 8 Certificates from Rotary International in recognition of the Days of Service projects.
– Rotary International citation in recognition for the hard work of the club in meeting her strategic goals
– Registered 2 Paul Harris Fellows of which she is the first
– Attracted a District grant through The Rotary Foundation for a Waste to Wealth project aimed at converting agricultural waste to biofuel
– Attended the West African Project Fair (virtual)
– Executed over 24 projects touching on all the 7 focus areas of Rotary International some of which include
i) Project End Period Poverty (PEPP)- at least 20 women were taught how to produce sanitary bags and reusable sanitary towels with a half life of 24 months. Materials and tools were distributed to beneficiaries for personal and commercial purpose.
ii) Tree planting iii) Distribution of exercise books to a secondary school
iv) Vocational and skill acquisition programme on tie & dye, photography, making of liquid soap and bleach
v) Sanitation exercise at the Lafia Modern market
vi) Radio sensitization talks
vii) Community reproductive health dialogues
vii) Donations to Internally Displaced People’s homes
viii) Sensitization on WHO hand washing exercise
ix) Medical checkup
x) Road walk on disease sensitization
xi) Donation of hand-driven tricycles to physically challenged people
xii) Career talk at a secondary school
